Business Activities for Inclusive and Sustainable development: A new sunrise

We dream that the world will develop on the path of economic progress, this growth when supported by inclusive development and respect for ecology is headed towards better sustainability.
In this world where majority of the population is still living off the land in agriculture or allied activities, battling with ways to address poverty alleviation, with climatic changes having an inexplicably adverse impact on those living at the bottom of the pyramid. Here again, need of business models to tackle these issues is felt.
The working poor are creative and resourceful economic agents with an appetite for change. The world has to find ways to tap into this potential through inclusive and sustainable business models - those offering goods, services, and livelihoods to the poor in financially sustainable and scalable ways.
Inclusive businesses productively integrate those living at the base of the global economic pyramid into their value chains as consumers, producers, and/or distributors. This is an important role for the private sector to be able to invest in business models that include the poor as full economic partners.
During the last decade, first-generation "Base of the Pyramid" (BoP) ventures focused primarily on "finding a fortune at the BoP" by selling existing goods to and sourcing familiar products from the world’s four billion poorest people. Many of these initiatives were not sustainable and did not scale, some failed outright. But through that experience, crucial lessons have been learned. Innovators are now succeeding--thanks to a more sophisticated and nuanced approach based on "creating a fortune with the BoP."
Typically, when we think about “sustainable business,” we concentrate on corporate social responsibility (CSR): energy efficiency, reduced carbon footprint, recycling and reuse, fair treatment of employees, and charitable giving, among other considerations. Most of the sustainable business programs, are corporate focused rather than society and sustainability.
The dreams fuellingtoday’s growth engineare the dreams of formalization of the informal economies of rural and urban world with inclusion and improved dignity through financial and skills development so that they contribute to the growth. To translate the possibilities into achievements will require a collaborative approach across scientific disciplines, financial ingenuity and supportive government policies
