SUPERCONDUCTOR AND ITS APPLICATION

Superconductors are the special materials which show zero electrical resistance below a critical temperature. In superconducting state, they behave like a perfect dimagnet and expel out the magnetic flux. This property is used in many applications in recent days.
1. Superconducting magnets are some of the most powerful electromagnets known, so they are widely used in MRI machines, mass spectrometer.
2. Recently they are also used as SQUIDS (Superconducting quantum interference devices), the most sensitive magnetometer known.
3. These materials are also used as magnetic confinement fusion reactors and fast digital circuits.
4. In addition, superconductors are also used as radio frequency (RF) and microwave filters which represent a class of electronic filters, designed to operate on signals in megahertz to gigahertz frequency range (medium frequency to extremely high frequency). This frequency range is used by most broadcasting radio, television, wireless communication (cellphones, Wi-Fi, etc).
So these are useful materials with some promising future applications such as smart grid, electric power transmission, power storage devices, maglev trains, fault current limiters and particle accelerators.
